ABOUT MY CHEZ SPACE
The Problem: Affordable Housing Crisis
According to rent studies within a 4 hour radius of Leander, there are only about 30 units available per 100 extremely low-income renters. This shortage extends to low-income and very low-income households, creating a substantial gap in the availability of affordable housing. Austin based projects such as the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan and the Strategic Housing Blueprint highlight the pressing need for affordable housing in the region. San Antonio’s city Mayor is developing a roadmap to address the affordability gap as well. Addressing this need is crucial for supporting the region’s growing population and ensuring that economic development can be sustained without exacerbating housing insecurity.
Our Solution: Rapidly produce attractive, durable and cost effective housing
A sustainable solution needs to be not only cost effective up front, but for the life cycle of the structure. We design with this in mind using extremely durable/lifetime materials, build practices that circumvent common problem areas and make maintenance easy.
“Builder Grade” is a BAD word in our book!
Building in a factory setting allows us to take advantage of economies of scale as well as efficiencies of production that maximize productivity with all trades in-house, while minimizing material movement, employee fatigue and material waste.

At My Chez Space, we produce exceptionally durable, efficient and affordable buildings and we build them quickly. What's the down side, you ask? Well, all of our units are currently in the 300-400 square feet range (though this will expand in the future) and our designs are fairly simple. We are very purposeful with the design as it all comes down to the efficiency of the overall build. Even our dimensions are what they are to maximize the use of readily available building products, meaning less cuts, less waste and a quicker build. We even have an employee bonus program that rewards finding more efficient building practices that don't compromise quality.

Darren started in real estate as an investor rehabbing and flipping homes. He quickly identified all failure points in homes as he fixed them and built them back better. In 2011, Darren hit a breaking point when his own 4-year-old home was falling apart. This was a mid-tier home built by a big name national builder. Determined that there had to be a better way, Darren started ground up construction of homes and became fascinated with the building science and practices that make for an exceptionally long lived, healthy and comfortable home. When he found the limits of what he could do himself, he started to develop using prefab homes. Darren has always had a penchant for efficiency and found that even in the prefab industry, there were significant obstacles. Again, thinking that there had to be a better way, he came to the conclusion that most of the obstacles could be solved by building smaller. Not only that, but he could help so many more people in the process.
